Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui was among more than 190 people sworn in at the Independence Day naturalization ceremony. The ceremony was part of the Fiesta of Independence held annually around July 4th. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said the new citizens were from 55 different countries. Lutui was born in the South Pacific nation of Tonga, but he grew up in Mesa and starred as a lineman for Mesa High in the early 2000s, then spent a year at Mesa Community College before playing two years at USC. He was drafted by the Cardinals in 2006 and has been the team’s starting left guard the past three seasons. |

Hundreds of immigrants were sworn in as U.S. citizens Friday at South Mountain Community College gymnasium, joining thousands of others across the nation who celebrated the Fourth of July weekend by participating in similar ceremonies.
