    League Hosts 49th Annual Awards Dinner
    By Michael Dean The Greater Phoenix Urban League hosted its 49th Annual Whitney M. Young Jr. Awards Dinner at Scottsdale Westin Kierland Resort on Friday evening. The dinner is one of the primary fundraising efforts made each year by the league in honor of the late Whitney M. Young Jr. who was the fourth Executive Director of the National Urban League. This year the Whitney M. Young Jr. Corporate Award was presented to Fry’s Food Stores of Arizona. The organization was recognized for being an avid supporter of the Urban League and is committed to diversity in the workplace. Fry’s has exhibited how a socially responsible corporation can make a positive difference in the lives of the dis- advantaged by not only providing them healthy, nutritious food but also utilizing their resources to assist in making the Valley of the Sun a better place for all. HOODWINKED Trailer (Official)


Hoodwinked” is a film that should be a must-see for every person of color in America. The film asks questions about long-held beliefs about black male graduation and incarceration rates and shows you why everything you've been led to believe is wrong by filmmaker Janks Morton. The Arizona Informant will host Morton and preview this film as part of the Juneteenth festivities. Date and place to be announced soon…stay tuned

Black Girls Code: Bridging The Digital Divide


Black Girls Code is an amazing movement spearheaded by the pioneer Kimberly Bryant. This is an organization based towards pushing forth the notion that yes, little girls of color can code too. They can invent, build and create. They can move a nation and they can change the world. Through workshops on coding, science and app building, Black Girls Code is creating a new set of pioneers.
Directed by emerging Arizona director, Shanice M. Johnson, CEO of Malakai Creative LLC – this short film of 15 minutes was made to inspire and to educate the world about how BLACKGIRLSCODE IS BUILDING CHANGE-MAKERS.
